Adding and Editing text

Encourages you to add text, that gets viewers to get hooked on to what follows.

This feature is based on the research result of understanding different hooks for ultra short narratives.

Adding multiple videos

Want to react to the video someone else made? Or do you want to add a gameplay when you are explaining something?

Worry not as we now can control multiple videos side by side.

Information Architecture of Quantum Mode

We understood that the flow is not concise. The 3 different apps have to be integrated through different interaction points. But what if that integration can be seamless through just the camera?

Background

During the 7th semester of my time at NID, I got an opportunity to work at Samsung through Samsung Prism. It was part of the college internships they were providing.

They gave us the opportunity to redesign parts of the Samsung camera to create a seamless experience between editor, gallery and the video capturing part of the camera.

We were given full freedom to explore new features and interactions. Our team also won the best project out of 8 other teams who were working on the same brief.

Me and 2 other students were selected for the final selection interview.

Strategy

We started by researching on the type of apps people use to edit videos and surveyed social media usage.

Surveys and interviewed people were taken to create user flows. The user flow was compared with several other apps to analyse how they work differently.

Redesigned the brief: “Creating an intuitive and seamless editing experience for Samsung users, focused to create ultra short narratives.”

This left us with 2 opportunity areas:
How do we leverage the interaction with physical objects as a facilitator of intuitive UI control?
How do we leverage digital story telling, to help people engage with relatives and family?

Affinity mapping and Rapid ideation were done to come up with different ideas. These ideas were tried out in story boarding, user flows and rapid prototyping to check the experience.

The final design was developed based on this process.

Design

We were aiming for a holistic experience that integrates capturing, editing and storing video stories into an experience using innovative interactions.

We introduced 3 concepts – Batch editing, Quantum mode and a shared media space.
We also made sure the UI is modular enough to be compatible with Samsung DEX, the mobile desktop experience.

“It’s not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works.”
